Sigmarion

I’m typing this on my new gadget, the Sigmarion. It isn’t new as such, I bought it second hand. The Sigmarion III is just out and it is just a little too expensive for me, plus it seems a little too big. The Sigmarion is a PDA, running WindowsCE, and produced by NTT DoCoMo. The form factor is really appealing to me, it has a built in keyboard and is not too heavy or bulky. Plus it is an instant on machine so I don’t have to worry about booting up or shutting down. It is too early to tell if this is the ideal machine for me for typing and editing on the go, but so far it seems to be a better fit than the Clie or the Libretto.

    Hi Ian,
I happen to live in Chiba, and ran across your weblog while searching for information on the Sigmarion. I picked up a used SigIII in Akihabara last weekend and find that it’s perfect for my mobile note taking. I listen to a lot of podcasts and like to take notes so that I can blog about them (or just remember them) later. I was wondering what your opinion of the Sig turned out to be after you used it for a while, and if you’re still using it.

    Hi,
Hmm… in the end I didn’t use it as much as I thought I would. It was partly the keyboard and partly the connectivity of the Sigmarion I. ActiveSync sucked so bad that I used a spare CF card to do most of the transferring. The Internet experience I had with it was also disappointing. Most programs wouldn’t run on the Windows CE version it had so I had to use the bundled Pocket IE and other apps. They weren’t very good and I kept longing for something like the browser that is bundled with the Sig III.

So in short, no I’m not really using it now but I am always tempted to pull it out and try again to get it to integrate with my workflow. I’m sure you won’t have as many problems as I had with the Sig I. But given the choice I would go for the Sharp W Zero3 now.
