Wow!! My first surprise birthday party. It was a truly amazing operation and I had no clue whatsoever. Rie planned the whole thing with help from Hideki, Keiji and Shuichi and the rest of the gang. They even used Kansai-ben in their emails just in case I happened upon the communications.
I thought that we were visiting Yamasaki-san’s new bar from a special pre-opening party. It was indeed a special party just not a pre-opening one. It was such a delight to see all my friends there, no-one let on at all. Not even Kengo that I had just seen online a few moments before I had to leave the house.
The cake was personalised 
and I got some pretty amazing presents, and we stayed until late having a “second party”.
I’ll paraphase what I said at the party “I’m happy not because it is my birthday party, but because of the fact that I have so many good friends around me today”.
