We were invited to the summer BBQ of the organised by the AVONs. The organisation that took place was really impressive with a bulletin board and online attendance list, I think the London 2012 Olympic Committee might be in contact. Thank-you for inviting us. We brought along a friend who was visiting from Hiroshima, and I think she had a good time (not sure about her feet though).
There was a full orchestra at the bbq, an eclectic mix of san-shin, sax and acoustic guitar.
Michelle practised being the host at the nijikai (second party) pouring non-existant drinks for everyone. And went home with a souvenier from the Expo in Nagoya. She has learnt a new “word”, ai, which seems to mean “I want” in Michelle speak. That and the combination of her pointer finger is enough for her to communicate I want this, I want that. Kinda reminds me of my first few months in Japan.

That was a fantastic day indeed! Thanks Ian for posting the pics and everyone else for the warmth you welcomed me with! My feet were tired from the Expo but luckily I managed to take off my shoes without finding any “presents” left behind by dogs, as someone suggested I might.
Hope to see you in Hiroshima soon,
Sofia.
Michelle looks sulky in first pic but looks so cute!!!
Doesn’t matter what kind of expression she’s got on her face, she’s lovely!!!!!
I like the one that Rie’s holding Michelle and Michelle’s holding onto her so tight.Mum & Daughter’s bond! God, she’s so grown up. Serving drinks to everyone!
Sofia,
Looking forward to being able to travel a little and visit Hiroshima when Michelle is a little older. How did your photos turn out?
Glad you could come
Akiko,
Yeah your little niece can be a bit sulky at times. If one of us tells her off she goes to the other. Seems she likes grass as much as beach sand (i.e. not very much). Will try to get the photo Shuichi took of her standing on your sister’s feet to avoid standing on the grass herself. Sometimes I wonder if she is only 15 months old!
