Mobile Number Portability in Japan

I’m thinking of changing mobile phone networks in the future but I am interested in keeping my number. I have heard that number portability will be introduced in Japan sometime this year. When I did a search I could only find vague references to it being implemented in 2006 (dated 2004). Further digging I found a reference to the second quarter of 2006.

Anyone know of a firm date?

[Update] Apparently sometime between 2004 and the present day the date got pushed back. It will be November of this year. Not that any of the networks are overly-excited at the prospect. The lady at the local Vodafone was pretty rude when I asked her about it. And you wonder why Vodafone are selling Vodafone Japan and getting out of the market here. :P

Sorry to hear you are thinking of changing networks. If you switch it could lead to a chain of events that would end with me losing my job :p
