We went down to the local summer fair last month. It was a small fair running the entire length of a small street ending at the local jinja (shrine). Most of the stalls were targeted at children. There were the usual suspects like goldfish fishing, superball fishing, lotteries for video games etc. There was even a stall for eel fishing with parents hopeful that their kid could snag supper for them.
The funniest thing that happened that night was when we got to the end of the street, Rie wanted to buy some yakitori (barbequed skewered chicken) but couldn’t afford to. I had forgotten to bring my wallet and she was 5 yen short. If we hadn’t bought the 2 sticks of candied strawberries (as seen in the photos) it wouldn’t have been a problem.

Ahhh, I miss those fairs…
Also, firework festivals.
As we don’t see much sunshine here, I don’t feel like summer at all. I’m sure Rie will tell you if I were there, I would have bought loads of junk food!!! Must think about going home during summer time…
