I’m getting married

Although this is the first time I’ve mentioned it I have been engaged for a couple of months. Rie proposed and I said “yes”. The wedding will be early next month, nothing fancy, just simple and low-key. We would have arranged for the wedding to be this month but we are waiting on the rings. Of course we are both very happy and excited.

Why haven’t I mentioned it before this? I’m not sure. This web site is a collection of private and public thoughts. I suppose I just felt the timing was not right to tell the world.

I have told most of my friends and of course all of my family. The range of reactions and questions have been interesting. The most frequent question has to be “Are you going to stay in Japan long term then?” Well it all depends on whether or not I find a suitable job. It has less to do with whether or not I get married, although it might help, and more to do with improving my Japanese language ability. If I can find a suitable job then I will probably stay here for at least the medium term. Japan has many attractive points. It is a nice place, the people are friendly at least in the Kansai area (amongst other places) and it has the right combination of convenience, activity and safety. Of course there are also unattractive points to living in Japan and also many difficulties especially for a foreigner but I believe that I, along with the help and support of Rie and my other friends, can overcome them. ganbarou!
