Clearing my inboxes

GTD

So my GTD experience so far…

Well I’ve read the book, and am preparing to re-read it. I’m started to implement parts of it and it has made a difference even at this early stage. Long term effects probably depend on how fully you implement the methods suggested. Reading some blogs and forums, there are quite a few ppl that have slipped off the wagon at least to some extent. I am hopeful that I can implement enough of it to make a meaningful difference long term. One point in my favour is that the methods suggested fit in with my personality, I tend to do things systematically. I am a INTP and (partly) a programmer after all. I guess that is why there are a lot of microsofters exaulting GTD’s effect on their lives.

It definitely isn’t a quick fix, though some of effects are quick to be felt. I was taken aback when I read the bit that said you will require 2 whole days to clear out your inbox and set-up your projects, which is probably true. However I did clear (process) my inbox, that was filled with over 1000 messages for over 5 months, a day after I read most of the book. My inbox at work is empty when I leave work, this alone gives me hope. My personal email inbox is almost empty, less than 20 messages left in it. If you have recently received an email from me you’ll know why.

Clearing inbox is actually good idea. i did it the other day and felt better after I’ve done it though there are still about 50 mails left. (half of them need to be there as reminder to contact them)
