Well at this moment in time I am doing all my computing on a old Toshiba
laptop. That’s cause my main computer is somewhere in Tokyo getting
repaired by IBM. I don’t know how long it will take but it could be
weeks. So I am using the computer that I bought to use as a server (web
and other Internet services). It is currently running Debian Linux with
just the basics installed. I don’t even have a graphics user interface
installed so all my computing is text based. I could install one but for
the moment I don’t really have any great need to do so.
Apart from computers the other objects in my life that are almost vital
are books. In my tiny apartment, I have two bookshelves and I had a lot
of my books shipped over from Hong Kong (thanks Sis). Some of the books
are of course computer related, but a significant portion aren’t.
Here are some books I am reading, and some books that I have
read and recommend:
- First Things First, Stephen R. Covey
- Linux System Administration, Kirch, Wirzenius
- Code Complete, Steve McConnell
- Perl – The Programmer’s Companion, Chapman
- Fearless Living, Rhonda Britten
- Photoshop – Restoration & Retouching, Eismann
- Motivate to Win, Richard Denny
- Don’t Make Me Think!, Steve Krug
- DeBono’s Thinking Course, Edward De Bono
- The PhotoReading Whole Mind System, Paul R. Scheele
- Japanese from Busy People (Kana Version), Association for
Japanese-Language Teaching - Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, John Gray
I will be adding a book section to this site soon and it will be a little
more detailed. If you are interested search Amazon.com for more info and
possibily some reviews of the above books.
