Back in Japan for Christmas

I arrived back in Japan on the 21st and have just spent my second Christmas here. This year I didn’t go to the Luminarie light display in Kobe because it is just too crowded. Rie wanted to go but I didn’t think that she could handle all the walking and the crowds. Instead we went to visit our friend Megumu and see a Christmas display of a different kind. It was a display of plants and it was really good. (Maybe I’ll upload some photos later.) We also got to see a couple of newts that were really cute. Of course that caused cries of “aren’t they cute?” and “can’t we have a lizard as a pet?” from Rie. It just so happened that getting a gecko was one of the presents I was considering getting for her, so on Christmas day (no shops are closed on Christmas day here) I went and got her one. She’s named it Tetsu because she said it seemed to be thinking long and hard about something. Quite apt really because I think that the thought that goes into choosing a present for someone is more important than the present itself in many cases.

What presents did I get? Well I got a lot of sweets from my niece Shirley, a game from Michael, a jacket from Akiko, a watch from Elie and a scarf from Marie. We were also given (presents to both of us) a lovely candle holder by Celine and an interesting book from Akiko. Thank-you all very much! But alas no techie presents or gadgets this year…

Well only another 363 days to Christmas again! hohoho!
