Apartment Hunting

Yesterday I went house (apartment) hunting with Rie again. Ohashi-san from Apaman was very helpful. However at the end of the day there really was only one more apartment added to our ‘maybe’ list, making a total of 3. The one I am most keen on is the one in Ku-Jo but that means moving away from the Shinsaibashi/Namba area. I suppose it wouldn’t be too bad and I could theoretically bike to Shinsaibashi. I guess I have been spoilt by being living right at the heart of Osaka for almost a year. We might not even move, as I have other things to worry about at the moment.

Mouse woes
I lost my mouse a few days ago. After the coffee dunking incident in which it survived, I finally killed my mouse because I overloaded the usb hub by mistake. And what did I do? I went out and bought another one, the exact same model. After all there is “no use in crying over spilled milk”

Monitor glee
For a while now I have been thinking about buying a new LCD monitor. When people ask me for advice about buying a computer I stress how important the monitor is. I recommend spending as much as you can on the monitor even if you have to make sacrifices in the speed of the actual computer itself. The way I view it (no pun intended) is that you are spending money not on a computer component but rather on your eyesight. I can’t stress it heavily enough.
The problem with buying a LCD monitor in Japan is that most places will not let you test for dead (or stuck) pixels. The monitor display is made up of tiny dots known as pixels. A dead pixels is when there is a dot that is permanently on or off. Some people don’t even notice them, whereas some people are hugely distracted by them. I am in the latter group and because I couldn’t test the monitor before buying it I decided not to buy one. But today as I was in DenDen town I found a shop that will let you return a monitor with dead pixels. You have to pay a surcharge (like an insurance fee), which varies depending on the monitor (around 4000 Yen), to do so but I would gladly do so.
The shop is Tsukumo

Oh and Liverpool finally won, beating Everton 3-0!
