Just back from a very packed 8 day trip to Hong Kong and Macau.  Managed to complete the main tasks, including Bai-san, seeing my brothers and sisters and meeting up with friends.  Though I think I only managed to meet up with about 70% of friends this time.  Truly sorry if you were one of the ones I didn’t manage to meet up with.

Some thoughts on my trip:

  • Viruses and trojans are everywhere.  My sister’s home computer was infected with trojans and spyware.  I plugged in my usb memory stick into a photo printing shop’s computer to print out some of Michelle’s photos and it was infected with 2 viruses.
  • We travelled by JAL, but the service was below-average.  For example on the flight back they started the film “Aoki Okami: chi hate umi tsukiru made” about an hour into the flight meaning that there was not enough time to watch it to the end…  Rie didn’t like the food
  •  Flash Memory is a lot cheaper in Hong Kong than Japan
  • IT in Hong Kong is on the upswing
  • Almost everyone I know is getting married or is married
  • The energy of Hong Kong is as great as ever (as is the noise)
  • Macau is growing but mostly on the hotel and casinos side of things
  • A couple of new train lines and extensions have been added to Hong Kong in the 3 years since I was there last
  • Advertising which used to be everywhere is everywhere plus a few other places
